ABOUT OLIVIA

Olivia was destined to be a dancing star. After all, Olivia’s parents met at her father’s dance studio- he was her mom’s ballroom dance instructor. But Mother Nature had other plans for Olivia; she was born with two left feet. While having two left feet is discouraging, meeting the dancers, learning about the cause, and hearing about all the wonderful experiences of past competitions made Olivia sign up on the spot! However, the courage to seriously commit to this benefit comes from one big influence; Olivia’s brother Kevin.

In 1994, the greatest blessing in the Sarnecki family was born; Olivia’s brother Kevin.

Kevin was diagnosed with severe developmental delay, and the Sarnecki family did their best to prepare for the challenges that would come ahead. The ballroom dance studio and business were sold, since traveling all over the country for dance tourneys would now be quite difficult. Fortunately, new business paths were pursued, but unfortunately, the dance environment was slowly becoming a distant memory.

Then, in 2005, the show “Dancing with the Stars” first aired. The show brought those distant memories back to life. Having never witnessed his parents dance, the Sarnecki family was in utter (but pleasant) disbelief when Kevin became absolutely obsessed with the show. 12 years later, Kevin has never missed an episode. On any given night you can catch him watching reruns. When Tom Bergeron’s voice booms from the TV for America’s Funniest Videos reruns… You will find Kevin at the tube waiting impatiently for dancers to come on to the stage. And so, Olivia is dancing in honor of her brother Kevin.

Dancing is powerful art. Everyone should have the opportunity to discover what dancing can mean to them; a form of expression, a way to let loose and have fun, etc. When Olivia learned of the purpose for this fundraiser, and that it will directly benefit the lives of children all over Chicago, it only further encouraged Olivia to drop her guard. A little embarrassment to help children throughout our city experience the beauty of dance is more than a fair trade!

Professionally, Olivia serves as the Manager of the Cushman & Wakefield Education Practice Group, an advisory team focused on real estate solutions for the education sector (i.e. school buildings, university campuses & student housing). Outside of work you can find Olivia spending time with her family, signing herself and boyfriend Jeff up for friendly competitions (like this one), or at the airport before she jets off on another adventure.
